Earth Girls Are Easy: Lost in Space with no Conditioner
By Sherril Steele-Carlin
What do you get when you take a whole cast of talented actors, and turn them loose in a comedy about friendly aliens visiting Earth?
You get Earth Girls Are Easy, starring a huge cast of comic geniuses, including Julie Brown, Jeff Goldblum, Jim Carrey, Geena Davis, and Damon Wayans. This 1988 film was one of Wayans and Carrey's first productions, and they look so young, watching this DVD may make you feel old! Essentially a fantasy, Davis and her pool are invaded by an alien ship containing three furry, cuddly aliens, who turn out to look surprisingly human when their fur is removed. The music makes this film, along with some campy acting by all the actors and a cute script that is endearing even 15 years later.
The soundtrack for this movie is excellent, filled with classic songs like "'Cause I'm a Blonde," and "I Like 'Em Big and Dumb," both written by Julie Brown and Nile Rodgers. Remastered in Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround sound, the amusing soundtrack really shines. It's also available in French. The DVD is letterboxed in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Subtitles are available in English and Spanish. This is a high-quality production, with many extra features. Picture and sound quality are both excellent, making it a joy to watch.
DVD Additional Features
Added bonus karaoke footage in the Special Features section of this DVD is alone worth the price. Other bonus material includes "Behind the Scenes" footage, outtakes, and five musical numbers. There's also a theatrical trailer, cast and crew bios, and production notes, along with some very special "Earth Girls TV." This is a first-class production, with plenty of extras for a great entertainment value.
