Grow Your Own Fresh Salsa

If you love salsa, then you should try growing your own fresh ingredients to make your own, fresh from the garden salsa treat! It's really easy, and a salsa garden will not only give you all the ingredients necessary for a zesty, taste-tempting salsa, you'll have enough ingredients left over to spice up many other fresh treats.
Grow It
To plan a salsa garden, you need enough room to hold all the ingredients comfortably, but if you only have a small plot, don't fret. You can still grow a tomato plant or two, some cilantro, and a couple of pepper plants in a relatively small space. If you want to plant all the ingredients for a zesty salsa, then add garlic, and a couple of varieties of onions, and you'll be set for some great tasting salsa!
Make It Fresh!
Once your salsa garden ingredients have matured and are ready to pick, gather them all together, and then follow this recipe for a delicious and satisfying salsa your entire family will enjoy.
Garden Fresh Salsa
- 2 large tomatoes, seeded & coarsely chopped
- 1 Serrano chile pepper, seeded & chopped (keep the seeds if you want it a little hotter)
- 1 Jalapeno chile pepper, seeded & chopped (keep the seeds if you want it a little hotter)
- 1/3 cup green onions, chopped
- 1/3 cup white onion, chopped
- 2 tbsp. fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 tbsp. fresh squeezed lime juice
- 1/4 tsp. sea or kosher salt
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Cover and refrigerate until serving.
Great For Canning, Too
If you plant enough ingredients in your salsa garden, you can make enough fresh salsa to last all year long, and then can it. Salsa works really well for canning, and just about any recipe would work. Make sure your follow the sterilizing and safety directions than come with your canner when you can any type of perishable food.
